Introduction

There are many aftermarket companies who manufacture spark plug wires that promise to increase performance and fuel economy. However, the most reliable and longest-lasting wires are usually OEM wires from the car’s manufacturer. Factory spark plug wires can go hundreds of thousands of miles before requiring replacement.

  • To avoid any confusion between which wire goes to which spark plug, replace spark plug wires one at a time. You may want to mark either the old or new wires to remind yourself which ones you’ve changed.
  • Disconnect the spark plug wire from the distributor cap by pulling it straight up.

Step 2

  • Gently twist the spark plug boot back and forth and pull up to remove it from the spark plug.
  • When installing your new spark plug wires, it’s a good idea to apply dielectric grease to the spark plug boots to prevent the electrical connections from being damaged by water or debris.
