What you need

Step 1

Replacing DVD drive mechanism in BMW MKIV navigation computer
  • To replace the DVD mechanism in the BMW MKIV Navigation drive, you will need to start with getting the replacement internal part. We recommend www.bimmernav.com
  • On the back of the MKIV are a series of stickers. Any stickers that connect between the top lid and the sides or back need to be removed or cut to allow the top lid to be removed
  • Remove the top lid by lifting up by your fingers. The lid is made of very thin metal and it is best to work slowly around the lid with your fingers to avoid bending the lid
  • Once the lid is removed using the torx 8 driver remove each of the 4 screws carefully trying not to drop or loose these small screws. Screw heads are marked in photos

Step 2

  • Once the Screws are removed gently lift the dvd mechanism out of the way to reveal the connectors.
  • The Ribbon cable is secured into place with a locking lever. To release it you first have to move the locking mechanism on both sides carefully with a small screwdriver towards the cable as shown in photo. TAKE NOTE of which end connects to each side as the ribbon cable MUST be reconnected the same direction
  • To remove the power plug gently pull straight up on the power plug to release it from unit. When replacing the DVD mechanism you will be reusing the power plug and ribbon cable.
  • Replacing the new drive is a simply reverse of this process
