2002 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L Spark Plug Disassembly
- Ensure the truck is in park, turned off, and has keys removed from ignition.

Step 2
- Open the hood of your truck using the lever on the drivers side of the cab by the parking brake.
- There is also a latch under the hood itself that needs to be used to open the hood.

- Locate the spark plugs on the engine. (4 spark plugs on each side, 8 total, covered by a spark plug boot)
- If the vehicle was recently turned off, beware of hot surfaces while performing this task!

Step 4
- Using the spark plug boot pliers, grab the metal casing and pull.
- Working with spark plug pliers instead of a hand lowers the risk of damaging the rubber boot and wire connected to the spark plug.

- Using the socket wrench , extension, and a 5/8 inch socket, place the socket over the spark plug. Using counter clock-wise motion, unscrew the spark plug with the socket wrench.
- If the spark plug does not come out with the socket upon removal, you can carefully, but safely remove the unscrewed spark plug with your hands.
- We suggest to remove and replace each spark plug individually.
