Introduction

Luckily, this is a car repair that is easy enough to do on your own, you should only need a 9mm socket, a new filter, and a little WD-40. All in all, it should be done in less than 10 minutes.

What you need

Step 1

              Engine Air Filter
  • On the driver-side footwell, pull the latch to open the hood.
  • Make sure you leave time between driving and performing this fix. Working around the engine while it is still hot presents a burn risk!

Step 2

  • Lift up the second latch to fully open the hood.
  • This one is located right above the Acura logo on the front of the car.

Step 3

  • The airbox is directly behind the battery. Remove the four 9 mm bolts holding the airbox down.
  • If you ever had the bolts replaced, they may have a slightly different head diameter. If a 9 mm socket doesn’t fit, use the appropriate size socket.

Step 4

  • Unscrew each of the bolts. Do not remove the bolts.
  • If the bolts are stuck, use some WD-40 or similar lubricant to help loosen them.

Step 5

  • Remove the air filter from the vehicle.
  • In many cases, air filters will have an arrow to show the direction they should go. This direction represents the airflow, for this particular car we want that facing upwards.
  • Do not fully remove the bolts.
