Introduction
The serpentine belt is a continuous belt responsible for driving the alternator, power steering pump, water pump, AC compressor, etc. A worn-out or damaged serpentine belt will cause these components to malfunction and potentially damage the engine.
Before beginning, it is important to ensure your engine is cold by leaving it off overnight; keep the engine off while following the guide.
What you need
Step 1
Serpentine Belt
- Release the hood latch.
- Open and prop the hood.
- Remove the plastic shield by pulling it up and toward you.

Step 2
- Place a socket wrench with a 17 mm socket on the belt tensioner nut.

Step 3
- Press down on the socket wrench counterclockwise to release the belt tension.
- Remove the serpentine belt from the belt tensioner.

- Check each pulley surface to ensure cleanliness; clean the pulleys with a cloth if necessary.

- Route the new serpentine belt according to the owner’s manual.

- Place the 17 mm socket wrench on the belt tensioner and release the tension again, then quickly slide the new serpentine belt onto the belt tensioner.
