Introduction
What you need
Step 1
Unlock hood
- Latch is located below steering wheel.

- Find latch above Volkswagen symbol on grill and open.

Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery
- Use the 10 mm socket wrench to do this step.
- Loosen the nut on the connector by turning it counter-clockwise.

Disconnect positive terminal on battery

Clear both terminals
- Ensure that both terminals are clear before continuing.

Locate alternator
- The alternator will be on the left side when facing engine

Locate belt loosening bolt
- The belt loosening bolt is on the left, below the alternator.

Loosen bolt
- Using 11/16 in. socket, rotate clockwise to loosen the bolt

Remove belt
- Push the belt off of the alternator.
- Do not completely remove belt from engine.

Locate screws holding the alternator in place
- Locate the 4 screws holding the alternator in place two on the top and two on the bottom.

Remove screws from alternator
- Using the 1/2 in. socket, remove the screws.
Using the 1/2 in. socket, remove the screws.
Step 12
Remove cap and electrical connector
- Remove cap and electrical connector located on the right side of the alternator before removing the alternator.

Step 13
Remove the alternator
- Take alternator out of engine by pulling to the left and out.
Take alternator out of engine by pulling to the left and out.
To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
