Introduction

Ineffective wiper blades are prone to Streaking, Smearing, Squeaking and Chattering, and are an easy way to tell if they need to be changed, according to Crossings Motor Centre.

Streaking: Streaks of water remain after each swipeSmearing: Areas have water dragged over resulting in unwiped regionsSqueaking: Wiper blades are not quiet when moving acrossChattering: Blades vibrate over the windscreen, causing skipped spots

Information in this guide applies to both wiper blades on the front and back of the 2020 Dodge Charger. Though many cars follow a similar replacement process, all the steps covered will not necessarily work for other vehicle brands and models.

Before beginning this guide, be sure to turn off your car and engage the parking brake.

What you need

Step 1

              Windshield Wiper

Grabbing at the bottom, pull the wiper arm up and away from the windshield, until it stands fully in the air.
The wiper arm is separate from the blade, and sits connected towards the bottom end of the windshield. A quarter turn puts it fully upright.

Step 2

Flip up on the lock tab.
Tilt the lower half of the blade away from the arm.
The lock tab sits at the end of the arm and on the blade; unlocking it allows the blade to be moved. The bottom half should come slightly towards the user when rotated.

Step 3

Grip the base of the arm with one hand.
Use the other hand to grab the blade above the unlocked tab.
Push the blade down into the arm, then away from the wiper arm.
The arm should be held steady. The small area left to the unlocked tab is where the blade is first pushed; then it can be removed by pushing towards the windshield. This reveals the hook on the wiper arm and the blade is fully removed.

Open the locking tab on the replacement blade.
Use the opening under the tab and insert the blade into the hook.
Pull the blade up into the hook.
The opening on the blade is where the hook is inserted; this is the previous step in reverse. The blade should be pushed in and up as far as it can.

Step 5

Close the lock tab and press it.
Grab the wiper arm and lower it onto the glass.
Pressing the lock tab ensures it is on and locked properly. After placing the wiper onto the screen, the replacement is complete.
