The laptop will not turn on, when you hit the power button nothing happens. The laptop seems to be dead but could be fully charged and will still not turn on.
If the device will not turn on at all after all troubleshooting it may be clear you have a hardware issue. You shouldn’t attempt to fix this issue on your own, you should go an authorized service center to have the laptop repaired.
You should attempt to plug the device in and allow it to fully charge before you attempt to turn it on again.
If this is your issue you can attempt to reset the laptop with Windows Boot Genius. You will plug your laptop in with a USB to a desktop computer to launch the program. You will then follow the prompts as stated when they appear on the desktop screen.
The laptop appears to be plugged into the charger but will not actually charge. The charging light does not appear to turn on when you plug the charger in.
If there is a lack of power supply you want to check your battery to ensure it is still in working form. If the battery is not working properly than you will have a lack of power source, meaning you will need to obtain a new battery and install the battery to ensure the laptop will regain a power source.
If the charger is broken or worn you will not have a power supply to charge the laptop. You will need to check the charger and if you find that it is broken you will need to obtain a new one to ensure you have a power source.
Some or all of the keys do not generate any response from the device when pressed.
Clean the keyboard using a dry tissue (avoid wet cleaning products to prevent hardware damage). Use a paperclip or pipe cleaner to gently clean the gaps around each key and remove obstructions.
Remove and replace individual nonfunctional keys following this guide.
Open Device Manager, navigate to ‘Keyboards’ and update the keyboard drivers.
Open keyboard settings and restore defaults. If problems persist, ensure that ‘stickykeys’ are disabled and key delay is not set too low.
Battery depletes in an unusually short amount of time when the device is not plugged in.
Remove the battery and install a new one following this guide.
Open Task Manager and check if any processes are using a large amount of power. If so, right click on them and select end task. Avoid using the laptop for power intensive purposes such as charging USB devices through it, using the disc drive, or running highly demanding software.
Re calibrate the battery by fully charging it and then allowing it to fully deplete. New batteries may need to be ‘broken in’ using this method before achieving proper performance.
Laptop becomes hot to the touch and may shut itself off due to the overheating.
Exit necessary programs running in the background. Use only what is needed and no more. Open your task manager and recognize which programs are taking the most work on the CPU. End any of the tasks that are not immediately needed for your functionality. Also consider replacing the RAM to allow the computer to handle more tasks at once.
The device can overheat due to excessive dust and other materials stuck in the vents and fans. Use a compressed air duster to carefully blow and dust or other materials off the vents as well as the fans.
Replace the CPU fan with a new/better fan which is better known as the CPU’s heatsink, that is capable to cooling the processor down at a much better rate. This guide shows how to do so.
The computer may not have adequate contact between the processor and its heat sink/fan. Clean off any old thermal paste residue left on the CPU and apply a brand new layer directly on the center of the processor. Put the heat sink back in place and screw back in the component.
Acer laptop goes into black screen. Sometimes the screen goes black after it boots up for a little. The laptop seems to be running but there is nothing on the display.
If there is a visible crack on the LCD display, a large black spot that doesn’t align with the pixel grid will show on the screen which means that the LCD panel is damaged. Consider purchasing a new LCD screen and taking it in for repair or repair it yourself.
A dead pixels is a single dot on the LCD screen that doesn’t illuminate. This causes the screen to have black squares. Consider taking it in for a repair as well.
The missing or outdated graphics card driver can cause a black screen. Verify that the graphics drivers on the laptop are up to date. You can do a manual search for the latest version of the graphics drivers on the manufacturers website and download and install it.
Malware is short for malicious software. Some computer programs are designed to damage the computer without the users consent. To prevent this problem, only install softwares from trusted websites and make sure your computer is protected from viruses.
A non functional hard drive will prevent the computer from booting entirely. If this is the case, replacing the hard drive is the only solution.
