Introduction

The speakers are responsible for amplifying sound from the computer that does not come from the headphone jack. Broken or faulty laptop speakers will produce distorted or missing audio, even when the sound is turned on and the volume is adjusted.

Review other possible solutions on the troubleshooting page before attempting to replace the speakers.

The battery was previously removed from the example device, and therefore the guide images will not match your device exactly. You do not need to remove the laptop battery from the device in order to replace the speakers.

Before beginning the replacement power off and unplug your laptop.

What you need

Step 1

              Back Panel               
  • Power off the laptop before beginning the replacement.
  • Using the Phillips #1 screwdriver, remove eighteen 7 mm screws from the back panel of the device.

  • Use a plastic opening tool around the edges of the laptop and remove the back panel from the device.

              Remove the battery cable               
  • Push on the sides of the connector with a plastic spudger to separate the cable from the motherboard.

Step 4

              Disconnect the Speakers               
  • Pull the black ribbon attached to the speakers out of the motherboard.

              Speakers               
  • Pry the right speaker up with your hand to remove.

  • Thread the speaker under the black ribbon towards the left to allow removal of the left speaker.

  • Pry up the left speaker to remove it.
  • Remove both speakers.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
