The Chromebook is not turning on when the power button is pushed or held.
If the Chromebook is not turning on when the power button is held or pushed, it could mean the battery is dead. To fix this, plug the charger into a working outlet and plug the charger into the Chromebook.
If the Chromebook still won’t charge after this, you will need to replace the battery.
If the bottom of the Chromebook is hot, that could mean it is overheating. Overheating could be caused by having too many applications running at the same time or dust being in the fan.Unplug the Chromebook from the charger, and leave it alone for about half an hour, or until it is cool to the touch. Turn on the Chromebook after it has cooled. If this still doesn’t work, try cleaning the dust off the fan.
If the Chromebook is not turning on, it could be a device power malfunction. Hard resets can fix several problems like this. Make sure the device is completely turned off. Hold the reset button and press the power button at the same time. This will not factory reset the Chromebook, and all files can still be found on the device.
If your Chromebook is not turning on when the power button is being held or pushed, and it is charged and not overheating, it could be because your power button is broken. As a last resort, you may need to replace the power button.
It is possible that the motherboard in the Chromebook has stopped working. If the motherboard has visibly damaged parts, or has a burning odor, it could mean that your motherboard needs to be replaced. Refer to our guide for motherboard replacement.
The screen is unresponsive when clicked or touched.
If the bottom of the Chromebook is hot, that could mean it is overheating.Overheating can make your screen unresponsive. The most common causes of overheating is dust build up on one of the fans or having too many applications open. First, try closing all of your running applications. Then try cleaning the dust off of the fan and unplug the Chromebook from the charger. Leave it alone for half an hour or until it is cool to the touch. Turn on the Chromebook after it has cooled down.
If your Chromebook has an unresponsive screen, this could be because a third-party software is causing a system freeze. The functions of some applications may try to perform actions that the Chromebook does not understand. Update all third-party software that is on the Chromebook.
If your Chromebook screen is unresponsive, it could be because you have a computer virus. Make sure all the antivirus software on your Chromebook is up-to-date.
The wifi on the Chromebook won’t connect.
If the wifi will not connect on your Chromebook, the first thing you should try is turning off your computer and then turning it on again. When you turn off your computer, wait at least 30 seconds before turning it back on, and then try connecting to the wifi again.
If the Chromebook won’t connect to the wifi, there could be a problem with the network. Unplug the modem and the router, and wait for one minute before plugging them back in. Wait two minutes and try again. If this doesn’t work, try connecting the Chromebook to the router through an ethernet cable. This will tell you if there are problems with the router wifi.
If the wifi on the Chromebook isn’t connecting, there could be something wrong with the Chromebook settings. Go to the wifi page in Settings. Try turning the wifi off and back on again. Then retry connecting to the network.
The sound on the Chromebook will not work.
If the sound on your Chromebook is not working, the first thing you should try is turning off your computer and then turning it on again. Wait for at least 30 seconds before turning your Chromebook on again. Once you turn it on, try using the sound.
If your sound is not working it could be because the sound is on mute. At the bottom right of your screen, select the time and adjust the volume using the slider. Then try using sound again.
If your sound is not working, it could be because you have speakers or headphones plugged in. Make sure there are no audio devices plugged into your Chromebook. Then try using your sound again.
If the sound on your Chromebook is not working, it could be because the speakers are broken. As a last resort, refer to our guide for speaker replacement.
The Chromebook will not charge when it is plugged in.
If your Chromebook is not charging, it could be because you are using a broken outlet. Try using an outlet in a different room. If the Chromebook charges when plugged into an outlet in a different room, the problem is not with your Chromebook or charger.
If your Chromebook is not charging, it could be because your charger is broken. Look along the entire charger for tears, dents and/or worn down sections. If you find any of these things, you probably have a faulty charger. You should order a replacement charger online or buy one at a store.
