Introduction
The USB ports can be used to connect a mouse to the laptop or charge other devices. If you notice that the ports aren’t working and connecting to other devices, it could be due to debris build-up or broken ports.
A cause inoperative side ports could be due to a blockage caused by dust or other debris. It is possible to try and remove the dust using a dust blower.
Always remember to power down the device before beginning replacement.
What you need
Step 1
Back Cover
- Remove the eleven 6.5 mm screws that secure the back case using a Phillips #1 screwdriver.

- Use a plastic opening tool to gently pry open the back cover.

- Gently remove the back cover from the device.

Battery
- Using tweezers, remove the piece of black tape over the battery cable connector.

- Remove the piece of black tape that covers the battery.

- Grip the battery cable on both sides with your fingertips and gently pull it away from the port.
- If needed, use the plastic opening tool to remove the cord from its port.

- Remove the two 3.5 mm screws that secure the battery using a Phillips #00 screwdriver (PH00 bit).

- Carefully place your fingers under the plastic lip where the screws were removed.
- Lift upwards to remove the battery.
- Do not bend or puncture the lithium ion battery as it poses a fire hazard.

Side Ports and Buttons
- Using tweezers, carefully grip the sensor cable by the white and red tab.
- Using gentle pressure, remove the cable from its connection by pulling outward.

- Place your fingernail underneath the locking black tab of the ZIF connector on the USB/Side Port Board and pry it upwards to release the cable.

- Remove the ribbon interconnect cable from the connector.

- Using tweezers, gently grip the middle of the board that contains the side ports and carefully pull out to remove it.
