Step 1

              Remove the Screw
  • WARNING: Before working inside your computer, read the safety information that shipped with your computer.
  • WARNING: Before performing these procedures, turn off the computer, disconnect the AC adapter from the electrical outlet and the computer, disconnect the modem from the wall connector and the computer, and remove any other external cables from the computer.
  • Remove the screw that secures the optical drive to the computer base.

              Remove the Screws
  • Make sure the Center Control Center, Keyboard, Palm Rest, Display Assembly, Magnesium Cover and Input/Output Board is removed.
  • Remove the three screws that secure the optical drive to the computer base.

Step 3

              Removing the Optical Drive
  • Lift the optical drive out of the computer.

              Remove the Screws
  • Remove the five screws that secure the optical drive to the optical-drive bracket and lift the optical-drive bracket out.

Remove the five screws that secure the optical drive to the optical-drive bracket and lift the optical-drive bracket out.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
