Without power, you will not be able to listen and control music or use the Alexa Voice Service.

Software updates are important to improve performance and add new Alexa features. Avoiding this update could potentially interfere with the device’s power.

To determine current software:

  1. In Alexa App, select “Menu”.

  2. From there go-to “Settings”.

  3. Select your device.

  4. Scroll down to the “Device software version”, which will be found under the “About” section.

  5. Current software version will be listed near the bottom of the page.

To update latest software:

  1. While performing the latest software update, avoid saying anything to your device or using the Alexa app.

  2. When ready to update, device’s light indicator or ring will pulse blue.

  3. A software update could take up to 15 minutes, depending on Wi-fi connection.

  4. Press and hold the “Previous” and “Wi-Fi / Bluetooth” button for 12 seconds.

  5. Wait for the light indicator to power off and turn on again.

  6. Open up the Alexa App.

Low battery power can cause the Bluetooth feature to malfunction.

  1. Connect one end of the micro-USB cable to the Charging Cradle.

  2. Connect the other end of the micro-USB cable to the power adapter.

  3. Plug the power adapter into a power outlet. While your device charges, the Power button glows.

  4. To check the current battery level:

o Ask Alexa: “How much battery is left?”

o Use the Alexa app: Go to the device’s Settings menu in the Alexa app.

Other Devices & Materials Causing Interference

Although it is uncommon, some building materials or other devices that operate using radio frequencies can cause interference with Bluetooth devices. To resolve this issue:

Bad Connection Between Devices

Hold down the power button for 5 seconds until the light dims and device powers off. Then restart the device and try connecting the Bluetooth device again.

Step 2: Remove any obstructions that may be blocking the device. If there are no obstructions, see the next troubleshooting exercise.

Step 3: Replace the device back onto the charging cradle and plug it back into the wall for at least an hour and check the battery status.

Step 2: Check the charging cradle port for any dirt or debris. Use a can of compressed air to blow out any debris.

Step 3: Replace the device back on the charging cradle and plug it into the wall. Check the battery status after an hour. If the device does on a charge, the charging cradle may be faulty. Replace the charging bay or use a USB to charge the device.

Step 2: Check the USB port for any dirt or debris. Use a can of compressed air to blow out any debris.

Step 3: Replace the device back on the USB and plug it into the wall. If the device does not charge, the USB may be faulty. Replace the USB with a new one.

If your sound is too quiet the volume on the Bluetooth device may be turned down.

Step 2: Adjust the volume on the Bluetooth device up or down to adjust the volume.

Step 1: Try it on a different USB Charger. If it works, the issue is in your charger. Replace the charger, and it’s an easy fix!

Step 2: Make sure the port is clean. Sometimes dust and dirt get stuck in the port. Blow into the port or gently use a toothpick to clean it out.

Router Needs Rebooted

  1. Unplug your router or modem

  2. Wait 3 minutes

  3. Plug in and turn on the router

Interference With Other Wifi-Enabled Devices

Using multiple devices at the same time can cause slow the wifi connection, causing connectivity issues. To resolve this issue:

  1. Turn off devices that currently are not being used

  2. If you cannot turn off a wifi-enabled device, move as far as possible from it to reduce interference.

  3. Move closer to the router to ensure a stronger connection

  4. Check the default IP address on the bottom of your Wifi router

  5. Open your web browser and enter IP address

  6. Log into your account

  7. Navigate to router settings page

  8. Open wireless settings page

  9. Change the 802.11 band to 2.4 GHz

  10. Save changes

  11. Using the Alexa app, forget this network, then reconnect. Turn your device on and off several time to test if this solved the disconnecting issue.
