Step 1

  • To begin, you will need to remove your filter from the aquarium. Take note of the suction cups that secure it to the side. Gingerly detach the suction cups, and drain the water out of the filter.

  • Use your thumb to push up on the lid of the filter to detach it from the frame. Be sure to be gentle so as not to crack the plastic.

  • Grab the green tab on top of the filter, and pull up. It should easily come out. It the green tab fails to remove the filter, then simply grab the filter itself and pull up.

  • Take a moment and wash out the filter with warm water. Be sure to use only water, as using any chemicals can dilute the water in the tank and harm your fish.

  • Use the green tab to replace the filter in the case. There are guardrails on the side of the case that you can easily slide the filter back into. Make sure the tab that reads, “front,” is facing you.

Step 6

  • Simply reverse step two and replace the lid onto the case. There is a cutout for the electrical cable. Make sure to replace the lid around the wire.

Step 7

  • Hang the filter back onto the side of the aquarium. Press the suction cups against the glass to secure the filter. Plug it back into the wall, and presto! Your filter is back up and running.
