Battery doesn’t charge when the power adapter is plugged in.
Make sure that your power adapter cables are securely connected to your Chromebook as well as the power outlet.
Check if the power outlet is working. If it isn’t, use another one and try again until you find a working power outlet.
The battery needs to be replaced. This has to be done by tearing down the Chromebook to get to the battery. The following video will demonstrate how to do this.
The device is not giving out sounds that can be heard.
Go to the bottom right corner of the screen and click on it. Raise the slide bar where the speaker is by dragging it to the right until you start to hear sound.
Check if the audio jack is plugged all the way into the Chromebook. If it isn’t, push the audio jack into the device until you hear a click.
You have a problem getting an external monitor or TV working with your Chromebook.
Make sure that the HDMI ports on both sides are securely connected to your Chromebook and your monitor or TV.
Make sure that the monitor or TV is connected to a wall outlet. If it isn’t, plug the device in to give it power. Afterwards, turn it on.
Web pages fail when you try to open one.
Make sure that you are connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot. This can be checked by clicking on the status area in the bottom right corner of the screen. If you aren’t connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot, click on the first option right under your account and select a network to connect to.
Having too many tabs open will effect how the Chromebook performs due to the limited amount of memory they have when compared to standard laptops and desktops. Closing a few tabs might be able to allow web pages to load again.
Too much data in the Chromebook’s RAM can cause it to perform slower and cause errors. Restart the device to clear the RAM. This should make the system more responsive.
An error occurred while updating Chrome OS.
Reconnect your Chromebook to the Internet and update Chrome OS again. This can be done by clicking on the status area in the bottom right corner of the screen. Then, click on Settings. After that, click on About Chrome OS. Then, click on Check for and apply updates.
You should restart your Chromebook and try to update it again. If that doen’t work, you will need to reset your device to factory settings. Go to this link and follow the instructions under Reset a personal Chromebook.
Your screen is black but glowing after you turn it on.
First, we need to find out if the problem is only in the display, or if it is something else. To do this follow the steps:
Turn the laptop off. Make sure it is all the way off and not just in sleep mode or hibernate mode.
Connect an external monitor to the laptop. Then turn on the external monitor.
Turn on the laptop. If the external monitor shows a display, then we can conclude that the problem is with the screen on the laptop (possible solutions below). If not, the problem is likely much bigger.
It is possible that the screen cable connector is loose. To fix this, go to the screen replacement guide and instead of replacing the screen, just reposition the screen connector. Then put the screen back together and see if the problem is fixed.
If the previous solution does not seem to work, you may need to replace the cable connector.
If the above solutions don’t solve the problem, you may need to replace the screen.
The laptop is not running as fast as it should.
If your laptop is running more slowly that it did in the past, you might have too many processes running at one time. Try finding which unnecessary processes are using a lot of space and stopping or changing them so they don’t hog resources.
If you need all of the high-demanding processes, you might consider upgrading your RAM. Make sure that your motherboard can support the upgrade though. After you upgrade the RAM, make sure to restart it after a week.
If the motherboard cannot support a RAM upgrade, you might need a more powerful computer. This Chromebook is not suitable for gaming.
You are having trouble connecting to the internet.
First, we need to determine if the problem is with the network or with the laptop. To do this try one of the following methods:
Disconnect from all networks, restart the entire computer, and try reconnecting.
If you have another internet-capable device, try connecting that to the same network. If it can connect, you know that the problem is with your laptop. If it cannot connect, the problem is likely with the network itself.
Try connecting the the network using an ethernet cable. If this works, the problem is probably the laptop. If not, the problem is likely the network itself.
If you have determined that your laptop is the problem try one of the following:
Make sure your laptop is fully up-to-date with new updates.
Run the Google Diagnostics Tool and follow the troubleshooting guide there.
Uninstall the local network adapter. Reboot the computer. When it starts up again, the computer should automatically install a new driver.
Try resetting the modem.
Your laptop routinely crashes after some time of use.
You might have some malicious files on your computer. Try running a anti-virus or anti-malware that can cleanup your laptop.
It might be the case that your computer is running too slowly to function. Try testing the RAM capabilities to verify.
Try a complete factory reset, if none of the above suggestions worked.
Your laptop will not turn on even though it is charged and\or plugged in.
Try disconnecting all external hardware. Unplug all cables.
Hold down the Power button for at least 20 seconds to force a full reboot. Then try turning the laptop back on.
It could be that your AC Adapter is faulty. Try using a different adapter (with the same voltage) and see if the laptop will turn on.
If nothing above is working, try reseating the RAM, then putting it back in place. Then try turning the computer back on.
It could be that the display is actually the problem. To test this, connect an external monitor and then turn the computer on. If the external monitor shows the computer’s display, then the problem is with the screen. You can learn how to replace the screen by following the screen replacement guide. Otherwise, the problem is likely with the motherboard, which you can replace by following the motherboard replacement guide.
