After running for a short period of time the laptop becomes very hot and the fan begins to run loudly.

Overheating often is caused by dust clogging the vent. To fix this apply compressed air from a moderate distance. Do not apply the compressed air directly, because it may damage the fan.

Asus laptops are designed to operate in temperatures between 5°C to 35°C (41°F to 95°F). If the laptop is exposed to temperatures exceeding 35°C (95°F) the cooling system will not function properly. To fix this, avoid using the laptop in environments exceeding 35°C (95°F).

If the system is not working as it should be, resetting it can often help. This feature allows you to close personal files or remove them entirely and then reinstall windows. Follow instructions in this video to reset Asus laptop.

One possible solution to the touch screen not working is because it just needs a simple calibration. Windows often interferes with laptop settings causing a number of problems to occur with laptop processes. To recalibrate your Asus, use the following instructions:

  • Navigate to the windows search bar and search calibrate and then open ”Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input”.Click the display tab and find reset, click reset to restore default calibration valuesMake sure to confirm your changes and then restart the PC

Audio coming from the speakers/ headphones sounds abnormal.

Confirm if the distorted audio is coming from the laptop speakers themselves or third party speakers connected to the laptop. If the audio is coming from headphones/speakers plugged into the laptop continue with troubleshooting. If coming from the laptop speakers proceed to repair/replacement guide for laptop speakers.

Distorted audio may be caused by old or damaged external speakers/headphones being used. If this is the case, speakers/headphones will need to be replaced to correct this issue. Prior to replacement, connect speakers to a different device’s audiojack. If possible, also attempt to use other speakers/ headphones in the audio jack that the distorted audio originates to determine if the jack itself may be the issue.

If the audio jack is clogged compressed air can be used to remove debris. If air is unsuccessful in removing the debris, a paper clip along with tape can be used. To do this, fix tape around the end of the paper clip so that it is attached firmly and has the adhesive part facing outward.

If the audio is distorted regardless of source or volume, the sound driver may be out of date. To correct this the sound driver will need to be updated. Instructions on how to update the sound driver can be found at this link.

When pressing the “power on” button, the laptop does not come on, the screen just stays black.

If this is the case, laptop will need to be connected to a charger and then plugged into a power source.

Occasionally, the black screen is a simple glitch when the operating system loses its connection to the screen display. When this happens, the first thing to do is press the windows logo key, Ctrl key, shift key, and B all at the same time. This will reset the connection so that the operating system regains its display. Check to see if the normal display comes back onto your Asus laptop once finished. If normal display does not come back proceed to a hard reset using the instructions listed below.

Other devices connected to the laptop could be the cause of the black screen. If this happens to be the cause you may happen to notice dots spinning as the laptop is trying to boot up. To fix this problem, a hard reset is needed. Follow the steps listed below for a hard reset.
