The phone is not responding to any stimuli. The screen stays black.
Hold down the power button for 10 seconds. If an indicator pops up that shows you need to plug your phone in, plug your phone in to charge for at least 30 minutes. This should turn your phone back on.
If the other options didn’t work, try removing the battery from the phone and putting it back in. If this doesn’t work your battery may need to be replaced, refer to this guide.
Sometimes the SIM and SD cards conflict with the Asus Zenfone 3 Max and will trigger a black unresponsive screen. Take out the SIM card and SD card. After you do that, try to start the phone. If it works, there was probably an issue with the SIM and SD cards.
To force restart, you will need to hold multiple keys down simultaneously, for at least 10 seconds. Press the UP volume button and the power button.
Please note that this restore will result in total data deletion from your phone, and should only be used as a last resort, preferably if you have backed up your phone to a computer. To start:
- Press the home button, the top volume button, and the power button simultaneouslyYou will see a menu pop up labeled system recovery. Click thisSelect wipe data, using the volume buttons to navigate through the menuChoose factory resetConfirm this choice by pressing the on/off or home button
After selecting this, your phone will perform the factory restore. Let it restart and your phone should function normally afterward.

The wifi disconnects unexpectedly, and users are prompted with a disconnection error message.
To update the phone first, go to settings.
- Tap AboutChoose system updateTap check for updates
To reset the network first go to the main menu.

The camera shutter noise is permanently on.
To stop the shutter noise, it must be turned off in settings.
- Launch Camera app, tap the upper-left gear icon to enter settingsToggle the “Camera sound” to OFF to disable it
If the phone was bought in either Japan or South Korea, the Camera sound option is not shown on camera settings and the shutter sound will be ON even if you use your device in other countries and cannot be changed.
The cell phone fails to remain cool when in use.
Often times some functions such as streaming content or gaming on your device means the device is being put to continuous use. Overuse of your mobile device causes the processor of the phone to continually run which results in the device overheating. The simple way to resolve this issue is to allow the device to rest unused and cool back down to room temperature.
Removal of unneeded apps, messages and voicemails can free up space on your device and help reduce the chance of it overeating. In addition to the previous suggested ways to clear up internal storage on your device, try deleting excess photographs and emails, as these can also help the chance of your device overheating.
The phone won’t charge or will be stuck at a certain percentage.
Restarting your phone may fix your charging issue. To force restart, you will need to hold multiple keys down simultaneously, for at least 10 seconds. Press the UP volume button and the power button.
You want to make sure you’re using the latest software. Go to “settings”, click ‘system update”, and then “check update”. If you have an update available, update your phone and see if that fixes your charging issue.
Avoid using third party chargers, as they tend to prohibit the phone from completing a charge. Use the original Asus Zenfone 3 Max charger.
