The phone becomes very hot, to a point where it is painful to touch.
The phone can run very hot if it is out of date. Make sure all of the phone’s software (including the apps) are updated.
Some apps are very intensive on the phone and cause the phone to overheat.
To find the apps that take up the most battery:
- Go to SettingsFind Power ManagementSelect Power Consumption Table
This will show all of the apps that are taking up the most battery causing the overheating. Update these apps and see if they continue to cause the phone to overheat. At that point, it is best to remove the app.
Safe mode reduces the amount of power the phone uses by temporarily removing all of the software that is not factory installed. Going into and out of safe mode can reduce the amount the phone overheats.
Safe mode is accessed differently when the phone is turned off and when its on. If the phone is off:
- Long press the power button to start it upWhen the ASUS logo shows up, press and hold the volume down button until the home screen shows up. The phone is now started in safe mode
If the phone is already turned on:
- Press and hold the power buttonTap and hold the “Power off” buttonPress “Ok” and the phone will start in safe mode
This will allow you to use the phone without any of the clutter and allow for an other troubleshooting to occur easier. To return to normal mode, simply restart the phone and it will power up in normal mode.
Simply put, cache is a cluster of data that allows the phone to perform repeated operations faster. If left untouched, the phone will store data from its apps from its initial startup and will cause the phone to overheat.
To wipe the cache for a particular app:
- Swipe down on the screen and open the settings in the top rightSelect “Apps & notifications” near the topSelect “App info” at the topSelect an app that has a large amount of storagePress “Storage & memory”The “Clear cache” to wipe the cache of the app
Do this for any app that has a large amount of data in the cache.
Sometimes the phone simply needs to be factory reset to wipe any excess data. Before you do this, it is a good idea to backup your data so it does not get lost.
- Hold down the power button to shut down the phoneOn startup, hold the volume up and power buttons until you see the Asus logoUse the volume buttons to navigate to the “Recovery” button and use the power button to confirm the selectionUse the volume buttons to navigate to the “wipe data/factory reset” button and use the power button to confirm the selectionUse the volume buttons to navigate to the “Yes - - delete all user data” button and use the power button to confirm the selectionYou can then navigate to “reboot system now” to restart the phone
The phone cannot find or connect to the local Wi-Fi signal.
First, make sure the device is actually connected and is actively looking for the router.
- Go to SettingsFind “Connections”Select “WiFi”
If it is connected, it will have a selected router name and it will say “Connected.” If the device is not connected, press the correct router name, enter the password/PIN and wait for the connection to establish itself.
If the device says that it is already connected to the router, try forgetting the network and reconnecting to it.
- Press and hold the current connectionSelect “Forget Network”Reconnect your device using the steps above
At this point, the phone and the router should be connected and WiFi should be available on the phone.
Unfortunately, problems with the router are a little more difficult to solve. If none of the previous steps work to fix the phone’s side of the connection, try turning the router off and back on again. To do this, press and hold the power button until all the lights on the front face go out. Wait a couple minutes and press the power button again. It might take a couple minutes to reboot and reconnect to all the paired devices. If that does not work, call your internet provider.
Phone battery drains at a high rate. If the battery is very old and the problems you face persist beyond this page, you may want to consider [invalid guide link].
The phone battery consumption can depend on the update of the phone.
- Navigate to SettingsLocate the System SettingsCheck for updates in “System Updates”
If the system needs to be updated, follow the directions prompted by the phone. This process requires the phone to turn off and back on again, and will take a few minutes to complete.
Having apps open in the background causes them to use the battery, therefore draining the battery faster than normal.
- Bring up the home icon by swiping up on the bottom of the screenPress the square icon to the right of the home iconClose out of all open apps by swiping them off the page
If there are numerous background apps that you are trying to close, on the left side of the background app scroll wheel there will be a “clear all” tab . Pressing this would eliminate all the background apps without needing to swipe through each and every app.
Some apps are very intensive on the phone and can cause the phone’s battery to drain faster than other apps.
This will show all of the apps that are taking up most of your screen time or are running in the background, causing the loss of charge. Update these apps via the app store and see if they continue to cause the phone to lose charge. At that point, it is best to remove those apps.
Rechargeable batteries only have a limited number of cycles before their health starts to decline and maximum capacity decreases. The phone may be discharging faster because the capacity is not what it once was. You can download a battery health monitor on your phone and, if the battery is not holding charge like it once was, replace the battery.
Cannot unlock the ZenFone using the finger sensor on the back of the phone. If problems persist beyond this page, look into replacing the sensor.

This occurs when a fingerprint was never set up.
