if the camera does not seem to work maybe it is time to replace the camera due to it failed one
the front camera does not respond because there are applications running on the background making the camera run.

there are apps the kill your battery life drastically making sure for this you can go to your settings and view what is killing your battery the most
when installing new firmware update make sure there are improvements sometimes it can kill the battery also so re-installing previous firmware is your answer.
