What you need

Step 1

              Open the back.               
  • Take the battery sticker/phone info off. Remove all visible screws from the back.
  • Place the sticker aside and save it for when you are done. It has important phone information that you do not want to lose.

Step 2

              Remove Shroud               
  • Use the pry tool to pop out the plastic backing component, taking care not to go too deep. Its a lot easier to get out when you start from the bottom left or right.

Step 3

              Prep for replacemen/removal.               
  • Take the 2 screws out on the board.
  • Lift the lock on the two ribbon holders that are for the screen.

Step 4

              Old Screen/Digitizer removal.               
  • Start at the left or right bottom edge, and try to gain as much leverage to the entire sub-panel assembly (digitizer and screen) as possible, the end result will be messy, but your goal is to minimize the mess.
  • YOU WILL CRACK THE SCREEN.
  • Make sure to clean up any stray bits, they will crack your new screen if you leave anything behind.
  • Do a dry run and practice fitting all the cables through the slots and around the board to the back. Once you feel confident, apply the tape/adhesive that the screen should have come with .

Start at the left or right bottom edge, and try to gain as much leverage to the entire sub-panel assembly (digitizer and screen) as possible, the end result will be messy, but your goal is to minimize the mess.

  • Thread the ribbons thorugh and around the assembly as needed, and hook and lock them back into place.
  • Make sure the screen sits flush.
