              Remove needle plate               
  • Remove the needle plate with the provided tool from brother included with the machine

              Remove screw on bottom               
  • Keep in a baggy
  • All three bottoms screws are the same short stubby philips head with a washer

              Remove screws on back               
  • Three large screws
  • One smaller screw on the underside of the arm

              Remove secondary arm cover               
  • Should come right off. Only held by compression and one of the large screws that was removed previously

              Free top of front case               
  • Work around the top of the case with the spudger until the entire top is free from the back.
  • Reference images for where the case is connected are shown.
  • You will end up just running your spudger along the entire case. Just keep working around until it separates.

              Free side of front case               
  • Work around the side of the case with the spudger until the entire top is free from the back

              Free inside of front case               
  • Work around the inside of the case with the spudger until the entire inside is free from the back

              Free bottom of front case               
  • Work around the bottom of the case with the spudger until the entire bottom is free from the back

              Disconnect LED               
  • Once the entire case is separated. Lift the bottom up until you can see the LED cable in the bottom right near the motor. Disconnect it.

Step 11

              Remove front case               
  • Lift the bottom up and out. When I did this I used a little to much force and accidentally popped off my front wheel. It was easy to put back on. It is hard to get off so make sure you get it right and not backwards.
  • You need to lift from the bottom forward to escape the top dials.

Step 12

              Lubricate               
  • Use compressed air to remove debris inside of the machine.
  • Lubricate metal moving parts
  • Use the hand wheel to get parts into a better spot to apply lubricant
  • Avoid getting lubricant on belts
  • Use a larger screw driver if removing other pieces inside the machine. The screws can be easily stripped.

Step 13

              In Case               
  • If you happen to get your center wheel removed this is the position is needs to be in for the “1” stitch

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

Thank you for this guide! It took me longer to find it then it did to repair it. I appreciate the step by step and the photos. I’m back to sewing again.

This is so so useful, thank you so much!!! All I had to do was get my reverse button going again, and I can’t afford the downtime of my machine being in the shop… Long Live DIY!!!
